April 27, 2008 [Gay running for office] Yesterday's responses indicated that running as a Gay is OK. Then why is Heather Carruthers not announcing she's Gay, what happen to gay Pride???? Could it be that Upper Keys people and Marathon folks will shun her???Will the few Bible thumpers we have in the Keys not pull her lever????We know all the queens in Key West have her vote, that's not the issues>>>>>>Govwatch05@tampabay.rr.com ______________________________________________________ I started campaigning for the Sheriff’s race and was contacted by certain individuals because of this. I came to know information that is not generally made public. I wrote several articles on my website about Cindy Peryam being Director of Internal Affairs while her husband was a Captain and the obvious conflict this presented compromising her investigative role into her husband and their friends activities. Bob Peryam is the Democratic candidate for Sheriff. I learned of Bob Peryam’s activities through his victim’s mother. I learned of Cindy Peryam’s attempts to cover his misdeeds up, and the role Sheriff Roth played in it all from the victim’s mother. I also learned several other things. I atempted to get the information which is public, or should be, and distribute it for consideration to those who will cast a vote in this race. I think it is only fair the voters be informed. The problem is Bob Peryam’s file is completely transparent and squeaky clean (missing in other words)due to his wife’s position. This is not representative of the truth. I asked Sheriff Roth for Bob Peryam’s file prior to the Homepac meeting in Key West. I was denied. I was told by spokesperson Christina for MCSO that Bob Peryam was under an FDLE investigation, therefore his files were not public at the moment. She said she had obtained this information directly from Sheriff Roth while she had me placed on hold. I phoned Sheriff Roth directly the next business day. He asked to have me on speakerphone with a witness present, his assistant Val Marinelli. I told him to tape record me if he wished. I never say anything that I will not say in public. I asked Sheriff Roth if the investigation with Bob Peryam was about the ongoing relationship he had with a very young girl against the parents wishes during working hours. He said, “No this investigation is regarding the relationship he had with a young woman on probation, the relationship you are referring to was handled years ago. I assigned it to an outside agency who I hired to conduct the investigation. I believe it was FDLE in Tallahassee and that case has been closed for some time.” I asked Sheriff Roth if I could have that file. He said he did not know where it was, he’d have to dig it up,if he could find it at all. He said because an outside agency conducted the investigation, they don’t have to keep it in Peryam’s file at Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. He said the current investigation was being handled locally by FDLE agent Kathy Smith. He told me to call her. I called FDLE in Talahassee and asked for the closed investigative file. I spoke with Mark Mitchell in Executive Investigations. He said, “Which file on Peryam do you want? There are 10.” I said, “All of them.” He gave me the number to call to request the files, which I did immediately. I called Tom Tuell. I said, “Peryam is under investigation currently with FDLE,and it appears he has been numerous times before for the same thing…relationships with YOUNG women while on duty. I gave him the information and who I spoke with at FDLE in Tallahassee. I challenged him to print the story just as he had done numerous times before when McCoy and DiGennero were under Sunshine Law violation investigations, even before they were concluded. Tom had printed each and every time there was even an investigation. I was sure he’d be interested in this candidate for Sheriff being investigated for improper relationships. I was wrong. He did not print it. I phoned local FDLE agent Kathy Smith about the current “probation relationship” and the new investigation. She responded that the investigation was assigned to an agent, and the agent would contact me. I sent a letter to FDLE in Tallahassee asking that the investigation be conducted outside Monroe County as local FDLE Director is Kathy Smith, a resident married to a police officer, and she is the same agent who threw my file away and refused to investigate my case involving the illegal incarceration of 5 juveniles in the adult jail for 10 hours on accusations they played hide and go seek at a school 5 nights prior, and committed no other crime whatsoever, yet were held like Guantanamo prisoners deprived of every right afforded by our Constitution. This same agent would now be handling the FDLE case against Bob Peryam??? It needed to go to Tallahassee, and I sent a letter to Tallahasse to follow up my phone call. I spoke to Tom Tuell again. He said Mark Mitchell with FDLE in Tallahassee said there were not 10 files but only 1. He said Sheriff Roth said there is no active investigation going on, and then Tom said, “Sandy, I’ll just tell you, they say you are a nut case and they never told you this.” He did not disclose if it was Mark Mitchell or Sheriff Roth who said this. I called Sheriff Roth. I said to Val Marinelli, his assistant, that she had been there for his conversation with me, in which Sheriff Roth put me on speakerphone. I told Sheriff Roth to tape record it as everything I say I am willing to say in public. Val was witness to the fact that Sheriff Roth said I can’t have the Peryam file because there is an active investigation going on with Peryam’s relationship with the “probation” lady. Why would he tell Tom Tuell that I am not accurate and there is no investigation going on? There either is, or there isn’t. If there isn’t, I want his file. “Oh and by the way I told Val, “tell Sheriff Roth I will be reporting the fact he told lies to me in his official capacity to FDLE.” Val said, “There was an investigation, but it is now closed. The files are still with local agent Kathy Smith.” I asked Val “When did the investigation close? Why did Roth report to me it was active?” She said I’d have to call FDLE. I called Kathy Smith. She said, “Yes, there was an investigation and it is now closed. However, the reports are awaiting approval and cannot be released yet. The report was handled locally.” So, I called FDLE in Tallahassee, and asked what the status of my request for the files were? They said, “They are being processed.” I called FDLE, Kathy Smith, and also made a surprise visit to her. She said the investigation I want is with the State Attorney’s Office. I called Mark Kohl. They said I would have to leave a message with Paul Meyers. No one could tell me where the file I want is, who holds it, how All of the files have disappeared. This is the Bubba System. This is what I want ended. This is why, unfortunately, you have no other choice for Sheriff but me, if you want this *&@##!*# to stop. Sandra Downs ______________________________________________________ In Wednesday?s Keynoter there?s an article about a family that had a building lot on the FEMA list and how this erroneous list has fowled up their plans to build a bigger home for their young family. This list needs to be gone!!!! The Wacko environmentalist have stepped over the line and people like Commissioner Sylvia Murphy need to be gone also?Remember last year when she said ? I don?t have time for people on the FEMA list? ????????This lady doesn?t have a compassionate bone in her body. ______________________________________________________ Carlos Rojas, Jr was born and raised, along with his sister in Miami. His father was a doctor, originally from the Dominican Republic and his mother was a bookkeeper and homemaker who came over in the exodus from Cuba. His parents separated while he was in grade school and he and his sister lived with his mom. He later went to Columbus High School where he was on the chess team, graduating in 1986 and then went off to college at the University of Florida. One of his friends invited him to the Keys on Spring Break, and he returned every year thereafter. Around this time he became interested in windsurfing, and later sailing. After earning his Associate in Arts degree he transferred to Florida A&M University in Tallahassee where he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture in 1991. Along the way he also studied art, music and history. His father sent him on a backpacking tour of Europe, continuing a family tradition in rounding out one’s education through travel. Upon his return he entered the Graduate School of Architecture at the University of Florida once again, and graduated in 1993. That year there was a bit of recession and finding work for a fresh graduate was not easy. Eventually, he found a job working in Marathon as a draftsman for D’Asign Source. Marathon became his home, living in worker housing alongside carpenters and landscapers. One of his college buddies’ father asked him to oversee the progress of work on his home in Islamorada. Carlos soon found himself living in an immense mansion and charged with a half million dollar landscaping project. After the conclusion of that project, Carlos once again moved back to marathon and went to work for a local engineer. He used to hang out at the Cracked Conch and played congas in the Dockside Sunday Jam. He joined the sailing club and dedicated his time to sailing and promoting sailing, eventually becoming the Vice Commodore of the Marathon Sailing Club. He was an avid cyclist and would ride the old Seven Mile Bridge every day. It was also during this time that he served on the restructured Monroe County Arts council. He met his future wife Alecia, the daughter of a client from Key Largo, in 1995. She encouraged him to move to the mainland and get his internship out of the way so that he could become a licensed architect. They moved together to Hollywood, then Boca Raton, then Miami as Carlos worked his way up through architecture firms. During that time, Carlos also learned how to fly, earning his wings as a VFR private pilot. Carlos and Alecia decided to move to Key West in 1999. He passed the difficult licensing exams on the first try, an achievement that is rarely duplicated. They were married in December of that year at Banana Bay in Marathon, and in 2000 he started his own practice. Around that time he was an appointed member of Key West’s Historic Architecture Review Commission (HARC). His business quickly prospered, as times were good. They bought their house in September of 2001, with Carlos operating his practice from home. Alecia, in the meantime, went to work as a salesperson for Boca Metals in Key West. She grew along side him, eventually becoming the regional Vice President of the company. Carlos joined Rotary in 2005 and later that year the couple was blessed with the birth of their daughter Juliet. In 2006, Carlos had his first solo art show, a benefit for Project Lighthouse, which helps runaway teens and young people at risk. Just last year, Carlos moved his office to its current location at 508 Southard Street. He has designed custom homes, commercial space, and affordable housing. He has done extensive pro bono work for the good people of Stock Island, for Jerome Covington’s office, and others. His practice boasts over 150 affordable housing units. The market bubble has burst, as we all know, and times got tough really fast. Almost every day, a proud, hard working contractor or carpenter would stop in and introduce himself, looking for work, feeling downtrodden. Carlos tried to comfort them and began to think of what he could do to save them. Carlos has coordinated large groups of diverse people as a daily part of his profession. He has overseen tens of millions of dollars worth of construction projects. He a proven leader of men and women in the construction field, and he felt he owed it to them to try to do something for them. He also realized that this was going to affect everybody everywhere. One day while reading the papers about the state of county affairs, he hit upon the idea of running for county commission. A risky proposition for a man who has never set foot in politics, but such was the state of affairs. Carlos wishes only to be able to represent the people of Monroe County and use his insight to improve the lives of its residents. He wants to use his voice to amplify that of the majority of residents, who want affordable housing and decent wages, a fiscally responsible and fair government, a clean and stable environment, and a chance to continue to call the Keys their home for their families. Carlos is not interested in party politics or power struggles. If you ever wanted a chance to vote for a regular guy, non-political representative that won’t put his ego or his wallet above honesty and integrity, here is your chance. Otherwise, you have other candidates to choose from. Hi, I’m Carlos, candidate for County Commission District 3. I need you support in this endeavor. Please email me if you would like to help at; tintarojas@hotmail.com. This is a biography and a political advertisement approved by the candidate. ______________________________________________________ This week’s issue of Key West the Newspaper, which comes out today (Friday, 25 April), features a front-page piece about Sheriff Captain Bob Peryam, the Democrat candidate for Sheriff. This piece makes fools of Key West Citizen and its editor, Tom Tuell. Fools. Why? Because Sandra Downs went first to Tom with the story, and he did not chase it down like KWTN’s publisher and editor, Dennis Reeves Cooper, later did. Instead, Tom and the Citizen published a near rave front-page announcement of Captain Bob Peryam and his race for Sheriff. Instead, Tom and the Citizen viewed Sandy as a nut case, a conspiracy freak, and in doing so Tom became the gadfly his newspaper had labeled Sandy, when it announced her candidacy for Sheriff. Not a gadfly in the Socrates get-to-the-bottom-of-things sense. A gadfly in the derogatory sense Tom and the Citizen meant to paint Sandy. Well, the chickens have indeed come home to roost, and not just for Tom Tuell and the Citizen. Bob Peryam’s wife, Cindy, is head of Internal Affairs at the Sheriff’s Office. The evidence Dennis relied upon to write today’s piece about Cindy’s husband was given to him by the Sheriff’s Office after he dogged them to death for it. Evidence Cindy Peryam, head of Internal Affairs, had to have seen. Evidence Sheriff Rick Roth had to have seen. Evidence they shuttled all over the place, trying to keep it out of Sandy Downs’ hands, even though she was telling them she knew about it and wanted it under the transparency in government and freedom of information laws. Evidence that surely cuts Cindy Peryam’s heart to the quick, because it plainly shows that her husband thinks with his dick and doesn’t give a rat fuck about his own wife, or women, or other people’s families in general. Bob Peryam is someone many people in the Keys want to have as their next sheriff. Well, let’s hope no women vote for him. Let’s hope that. For not only does Bob apparently think with his dick and show up where he isn’t welcome, he isn’t even man enough to admit it. Nor does he have the sense God gave a baboon. He ran for Sheriff knowing the Sheriff’s Office had this evidence on him. Did he think it would not somehow find its way into the light of day? Does he live in a state of such arrogance that he believes he is bullet proof? That it doesn’t matter what kind of “family man” he is?, which is what he has boasted in some of his political advertising that he is — a family man. Does he believe people will vote for him no matter who or what he really is? Apparently so. Nothing else could explain his idiotic behavior. And what explains the behavior of Sheriff Roth, who has known of this evidence all along against Capt. Bob Peryam? What does that say about Sheriff Roth, who some time ago was featured in a front-page Key West Citizen about his retirement and applauded for his sparkling record in office? A law enforcement officer who had retired from government and taken a $394,200 lump sum retirement payment and almost $7,500 a month in additional retirement payments, and then went back to work at a $118,200 annual Sheriff’s salary? The same kind of sweet deal, which is legal in Florida, but not in all states, that Captain Bob Peryam wants for himself, we can only imagine. Legal double or even triple dipping. In Florida. We are going to allow a Sheriff Captain who thinks with his dick and seems to have no respect for families, whose wife has done nothing to rein him in, at home or on the job, to be our next Sheriff? If so, we are checking ourselves into the state mental. And hell. Okay, boys and girls. Which Sheriff candidate says this sort of shit has to stop? Come on, tell me who is doing that? It’s okay. You can say it. Oh, you don’t want to say it? You are feeling like a fool? Aw, too bad. You thought Sandy was making it all up, just trying to get herself elected? Or she was crazy? Well, who is crazy now? It sure ain’t Sandy, folks. It’s the people who have been bashing her. The chickens indeed have come home to roost. And make no mistake: it was Sandy’s digging that brought Dennis Cooper into this case. It was Sandy who got this story starting to breathe the light of day. Sandy, who says, if elected, she will clean house in the Sheriff’s Office, keep the good deputies and get rid of the rest of them. Sandy, who says she will cut $6,000,000 in fat out of the $44,000,000 Sheriff’s budget. Sandy, who says she is going to encourage whistle-blowing in the Sheriff’s Office, and look out for and protect and encourage the good deupties. Sandy, who says she is going to catch the bad guys and put them in jail, no matter who they are. Even if they work in the Sheriff’s Office. In the State Attorney’s Office. In the County Courthouse. On the County Commission. Sandy. Meanwhile, if this week’s copies of Dennis’ sleuth work are snatched off the newsstands before you get there, like, mabye by Bob Peryam and his friends, you can go to kwtn.com and read about it online, after it’s published there. As Dennis often writes when he is gnawing a bone, stay tuned . . . Sloan Bashinsky, non-partisan county commission candidate, District 3 Political disturbance, written, borrowed, approved and paid for by me ______________________________________________________ If you did not see Sandra Downs’ letter to the editor in Key West Citizen yesterday, you can read it in the “Sandy on civil rights” menu file on the homepage of goodmorningfloridakeys.com. The website Sandy’s letter said appears to have been blocked by Monroe County on its server. While at goodmorningfloridakeys.com, you might also wish to read the poem in the “Sandy — God’s poet” file, which, like Sandy’s letter to the editor, made her write it. That’s how God poetry arrives: it makes you write it, comes without warning, leaves you a bit jellified inside, and a bit awed. If you are the person it comes through. I imagine some people will scoff at Sandy’s letter to the editor and poem. Maybe a lot of people will. Plenty of people scoffed at Jesus in his day. And plenty still do, including plenty of Christians, who claim him as their Lord and Savior, but do not live by his model and teachings. Better for them, he said, never to hear of him, than to hear of him and then ignore him. I imagine plenty of people also will scoff at this summary below from Sandy about some of her experiences in the zoo that is our Sheriff’s Office and Department of Law Enforcement and State Attorney’s Office. A zoological dig in which she tried to get to the bottom of what actually is going on with Sheriff Captain Bob Peryam, her Democrat opponent in the sheriff’s race. Like Sandy’s poem, like her letter to the editor, you can believe this, or not. Like you believe Jesus, or not. Always, it’s a choice. To believe, or not. Always. |

He has numerous years in the hospitality business and has overseen capital budgets for large corporations as well as being a communications facilitator for all the companies he has worked for in the past and present. ______________________________________________________ How come every time there's something brought up at the County commission meeting about people in Big Pine Key and No Name old Georgee Neugent is conveniently off somewhere. Is the little blonde chick (Mrs. Wheeler) that runs the Big Pine Key Nazi club and The Meatloaf Lady (Thacker) the only one that adores him? You guys need to seriously thick about getting rid of this ______________________________________________________ Hammerstrom tries to tie Monroe's comprehensive plan to D.O.T.'s 5th lane addition on U.S. 1 in Key largo......D.C.A. fails to buy it's relevance. They have bigger fish to fry....Keylargokey.com ______________________________________________________ Bob Peryam, who is running for the sherff's seat has raised $44,000. Has Mark Kohl done any convictions when it comes to the Bubba boys in Key West? Has Mark Kohl gotten to the bottom of why Sheriff Maudlin left the department, or has any investigations been done to see if there were any sexual harrasment charges that could be laid at Maudlin's feet? Why was there such a long period of silence before anything came out in the newspapers about the sexual harassment claims, when Jim Scholl knew about it weeks before it was made public? Were these charges trumped up to rid Key West of Sheriff Mauldin because he would not play the games that the Bubba boys wanted? State Attorney Mark Kohl needs to be unseated. April 16, 2008 Main Stream Press and Citizen Jane fail to add..... Heather runs a hotel for Homosexuals.....Why don't you folks tell the whole story??? When I ran they called me an property rights Activist, they call Sloan and Looney and a dreamer...... Why not call her a Lesbian? Isn't she proud of that? What happened to Gay Pride??? Could being Gay hinder her from winning an election??? ______________________________________________________ Say Eddy looks like posts are getting pretty thin......If you pay me $30.00 a week I'll come back.....Keylargokey.com Why is the county going to *pay Mr Zapulla $140,000* if they were correct in firing the former Budget Director? Huge IF because they were not correct. Because they are afraid that the Career Service Board will exonerate, Mr Zapulla and give him his job back, and further vindicate him by owning up to the fact that they wrongly suspended and then terminated him. ______________________________________________________ I cannot believe what Mayor McPherson is doing! He has taken it upon himself, against wishes of the TDC to go to Tallahassee and use the hotel tax for affordable housing. McPherson should be impeached! ______________________________________________________ Which developer slipped money under the table to McPherson? ______________________________________________________ I'm so glad Emergency Management Director Irene Toner has changed her tune. Originally, she was FOR the Stock Island Hotel and went out of her way to get support from the utilities for the hotel. This hotel, which developers claimed would be for hurricane evacuation, would not require Rogos for building permits. Emergency people who stay on the island during hurricanes, already stay in other category 5 facilities. By using this tactic, developers would have saved millions of dollars. Regarding Toner's public opinion, it was after the State Emergency Management Division Director: Craig Fugate made clear, this hotel has nothing to do with safety and everything to do with development and he rejected the proposal. NOW Toner says she is against the hotel. I wish Ms Toner would have made her opposition to the proposal before it went up to DCA the first time. She would then have my respect for her which she does not have now. ______________________________________________________ Why did State Rep. Jack Seller of Broward County stand up for the hotels in monroe county, and not Ron Saunders? __________________________________________________ those people who wanted the Vandenberg sunk so badly, should have raised money nationwide instead of bleeding us locals ______________________________________________________ County politics gets more scary when the mayor has more power than our state representative ______________________________________________________ I just read in the citizens voice, that the parking garage at the key west airport was built to park all the "bubbas" cars during hurricanes. Does anybody know if this is true? ______________________________________________________ Penny Wise - Safety Foolish Presidential John McCain is declaring, he would cut taxes on gas during summer months (gas tax holiday) when people travel most across the country. If you have a 15 gallon gas tank, and fill up once a week, you will save $2.40. In the meantime, it will cut 10 billion dollars currently raised from the country's infra structure fund, collected from all cars in the U.S. Monroe county receives 60% percentage of monies for road repairs from the federal government from this nation wide tax. With bridges and roads, built 50 years ago (their life span is ending and need upkeep) , this would be the worst time ever to cut these monies. It sounds good, but the bottom line is that to save $2.40 a week, it is just not worth the health of our infra structure (remember the bridge that broke in Minneapolis). It also would be wise to add an additional one penny tax to our gas for Monroe county, because our local fund is almost depleted and the one penny is such a small amount for us drivers, that we would not notice the difference in what we pay now. Our hurricane evacuation, relies on our roads to evacuate the Keys. It would be wise to support the penny tax to make sure our roads are healthy. We have one road going up to the mainland, and we need to take care of it. And finally, It is important to elect politicians wise enough to understand what the county should spend on and what it shouldn't for the safety of us all. Our current BOCC, has a majority of 3 persons, not making the wisest of decisions for us all. This needs to change in the next election. ______________________________________________________ A few days ago, I received an email from the webmaster/host of keylargokey.com asking me for Bible references about homosexuality. I replied that I knew it was mentioned somewhere in the Old Testament as an abomination, but there was nothing in the New Testament. I added some comments about St. Paul’s discouraging pronouncements on sex and marriage, and that he was gay. I received back a liturgy of Old and New Testament cites condemning homosexuality, including some written by Paul. No mention of Jesus. Below is the text of emails that followed between this fellow and me. He used to live in the Keys and still owns Keys real estate he would like to develop but so far has not been able to get permits. If you visit his website, the part relevant to what follows is in the “Keys Politics” file. I tried to correct the typographical errors in my emails. Sloan __________________________________________________ What I wuz wondering, Sal, wuz how come the sudden outburst about homosexuality from you? Then it occurred to me just now to go to your website. Then I saw why. Heather Carruthers. One of my opponents in the District 3 county commission race. I’ve written about homosexuality a few times since arriving in Key West in late 2000. I’ve told of my own terrifying dreams in early 1989. Of beautiful young women … I explained that those dreams were about the sexual wiring in my psyche, and the cause: aggression, with a resulting destruction of my own interior female. Same thing that happened to Paul, who, before God seized him and started straightening him out, was making a career out of hunting down Christians and turning them over to the Roman authorities for trial and execution. I’ve also written some about the healing of that unholy sexual destruction in me. The healing was horrible, went in many stages for many years. The dreams described above were only the beginning. The wake-up call. I once had been very prejudiced against homosexual people. I was a racist about it. Like you seem to be. By the time of the dreams, I was over that. I was not, however, over the destruction in my soul, which had been visited on me in my youth in ways you don’t want me to tell, and I’m not feeling moved to tell. What I will tell is that some of it I remembered, some of it returned to my memory as the healing progressed. And some of it was inflicted by my own hand, in the way I treated others as I myself had been treated. Which required that the healing was part from the spirit and part in assignments given by God to me to behave in very different ways than I had been behaving. The homosexual people I have known well , one was a girlfriend for a while, who remains like a sister to me, were good, decent people, who preferred people of the same sex for reasons they could not explain. Some of them were troubled by it, others had accepted it as their lot. Some were open about it with their families, in their churches, on the job, others were not. Some told me they wished they weren’t gay, but there was nothing they could do about it. Some agreed with my perspective that their being gay was rooted in early spirit injury to their male and female aspects. All of them, I’m speaking of the gay people who were my friends, were tolerant of other people. They understood persecution well and did not want to see it visited on others. They wanted to live and let live. The gay people who were my friends. I met gay people who were not like that. They were strident, aggressive, bigoted. Wore their gayness like some sort of badge of honor. Stuck it in other people’s faces. Acted as if the world owed them a living. The gay version of Neo Nazis. You sort of remind me of the straight version, Sal, in your tirades against gays. Yet deep down inside your psyche, I betcha, live the same folks I was shown in those terrifying dreams in early 1989. Dreams I no longer have, because God got me over what was causing them. I suggest, Sal, that you give serious thought to leaving off quoting the Old Testament and Paul, and start pondering and quoting Jesus, whom Paul never met on this world. Jesus, who said, “Do unto others as you would have done unto you.” Jesus, who said, “Abide in me, and you will come to know the truth and the truth will set you free.” Jesus, who said, “Love God with all your heart, mind and soul, and love your neighbor as yourself.” Jesus, who said, “Hypocrite, first take the beam out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly enough to remove the mote from your brother’s eye.” According to the Gospels, anyway, he said these things. Rest assured, Sal, whenever I come down hard on someone else, I do so in fear and trepidation, hoping I am doing what I have been asked by God to do; knowing if I am not doing God’s will, I will be taken to task for it in ways I do not care to experience; in ways I seriously doubt you or people I know can possibly understand, simply because you and they have not had the same experiences in God’s “correctional institute” that I have had. With that in mind, I return to Heather Carruthers. I do this because it is no big secret that gays in Key West tend to vote in block, and that they historically have had a great deal to do with who ended up in the Mayor’s office and on the City Commission. The general public is entitled to and has a right to know what political alliances a candidate has BEFORE voting for that candidate, which is why I write so much about my own personal life and perspectives: so voters can know me, instead of knowing only what I want them to know. Heather is active in her gay community. She owns and operates a hotel that caters to gay women. When push comes to shove, will Heather set aside her gayness if something more important comes before her as a county commissioner? I don’t know. Only Heather knows, and yet perhaps she does not know. Perhaps she will not know until she is put to that test, which I know she will be if she is elected, and perhaps even during the campaign. That is how God works. We are tested where we are most comfortable, most secure. We are expected to move beyond our comfort and security. You are being tested, Sal, to move beyond your prejudice against gays. Sloan ___________________________________________ We’ll leave the God thing to you Sloan…..I’m just pissed that the boys and girls of the Citizen and the Keynoter leave stuff out of their reporting about certain candidates. They call you the Angel man and me the property rights activist. Now we need to have them call her a Lesbian….That’s all…..Sal ________________________________________________ I suppose, Sal, in a place like Key West, especially, with so many gays and so much emphasis on One Human Family creed, adopted by Key West from the gay community, it’s a bit tricky to raise sexual orientation in the media. But then, it’s a bit tricky to raise race stuff in the media, too, probably anywhere. Sandy [Downs] told me she dreamt all night long last night about the race and homosexual issues not going away and needing to be aired out and discussed. I know that if I was gay and was running for office, I’d be made to say it in my campaign and not wait on the media or someone else to bring it out. Otherwise, it would look like I was trying to hide it, maybe because I felt it would injure my chances at the polls. Well, it’s not something I have to deal with personally, since I’m not gay. But I do find myself concerned sometimes about some of the issues now up for gay people, and I hope it stays at the state and national levels and does not become a political football in the Keys. We have plenty to say grace over already here, and I don’t see how we can do much to affect what might come down in Tallahassee, other than let our state legislators and the Governor know how we feel. I won’t be surprised if I publish something about this tomorrow. - Sloan |

April 13, 2008 I'm not happy with School Superintendent Acevedo's arrogance when asked about the travel expenses for a group of 17 people to go to a conference, in times when the school board is crying for money. He never should have questioned School Board Member John Dick about why Dick questioned this trip. Acevedo should have just said yes to submitting a detailed list of expenses and be done with it. I don't understand why 3 of the 17 teachers were allowed to take their spouses if they were traveling for business. To me, the fact that 3 couples could bring their spouses tells me this was not so much a business trip, but a pleasure trip which us tax payers certainly do not want to pay for. Those 3 couples should reimburse the school board for their expenses on this trip because they turned it into a vacation trip. Good work John Dick ______________________________________________________ Our economy is not doing good, and it is not just the result of our poor economy. This island has been catering to the rich and super rich and has neglected the middle class and lower income families. I say we change course and start gearing our tourism ads to the groups with less money. It is better to have lower rates for our hotels, conch train, water sports activities and restaurants so we can bring in these tourists and their dollars. There has not been enough rich tourists to support our businesses and now, we are falling so badly. Change Course! ______________________________________________________ Sal Zappula's firing was another one of Tom Willie's doing. Sal was fired for being a whistle blower, because Sal showed numbers that Willie didn't want the county to know. Remember, this was at a time Tom Willie was telling the county it had money to afford the Hickory House, sinking of a ship, Nelson building, etc. It is because of Tom Willie that the county has to pay over $100,000 as a settlement to Zappula. And I am sure there will be more expenses to the county for Tom Willie's actions. ______________________________________________________ Following is an email to County employees warning of the County policy against using the Internet for personal reasons. April 10, 2008 I am sorry that the man from Guatemala died at the airport construction site. But, I have to share that my neighbor, a young, healthy strong man, has been looking for a decent paying job for months now and the fact that this construction worker was an illegal immigrant tells me that as the county or city contracts these huge jobs, there should be in fine print in their contracts, that they must hire local people who live here and who are looking for jobs. ______________________________________________________ How in the world, can a simple concrete job, kill a man? who is in charge for inspections at the key west airport? they should be charged with a criminal job and a full investigation should be made to find the person responsible! ______________________________________________________ congratulations to heather carruthers for entering the race for sonny mc coy's seat. ______________________________________________________ the FKAA, is about to build a completely "green" bulding in Marathon. April 9, 2008 does anybody know if sonny mccoy is gonna run for re-election ? ______________________________________________________ I hope the city and county realizes that as they replace adminstrative positions... we are in tight finances. These salaries do not have to be higher nor even the same than previous positions. Administrative salaries should be changed now to more affordable rates which us tax payers can afford. Most locals earn $10 - $20 per hour and so, anything above $50,000 in this town is a darn good salary (not to mention the usual benefits which add additional worth to their salaries)! |

April 7, 2008 Hey, I wanna know why it took our city manager.... Jim Scholl so long to fire the police chief. These sexual harrasment charges should have been made public! ______________________________________________________ When will somebody ask the real questions that Americans what to hear from Obama? Here are my thoughts..Obama and his wife have graduated from some of the finest schools in the USA. The both have wonderful Jobs and are considered wealthy by most Americans Standards. I wonder why it is just lately Mrs Obama is Proud to be an American? Why was she not proud to be an American with her husband being elected a US Congressman? If Obama gets elected President will Mrs Obama still be Ashamed to be an American even though she is the First Omama? AS far as Obama is concerned, I think he should stop celebrating his blackness long enough to consider that he will be representing all people in a multi-ethnic country. This country does NOT need a First African American President! What we need right now is a Great American leader that can Unite the country and bring us out of the brink of bankruptcy. His affiliations with a black racist (Rev Wright) has a lot of people wondering if he is capable to put his race aside for four years and just be an American that will go down in history as a Great American President that just happened to be black? ______________________________________________________ SOCIAL SECURITY CHANGES It does not matter if you personally like or dislike Bush. You need to sign this petition and flood his e-mail box with e-mails that tell him that, even if the House passes this bill, he needs to veto it. It is already impossible to live on Social Security alone. If the government gives benefits to "illegal" aliens who have never contributed, where does that leave those of us who have paid into Social Security all our working lives? As stated below, the Senate voted this week to allow "illegal" aliens access to Social Security benefits.Attached is an opportunity to sign a petition that requires citizenship for eligibility to that social service. Instructions are below. If you don't forward the petition and just stop it, we will lose all these names. If you do not want to sign it, please just forward it to everyone you know. Thank you! To add your name, click on "forward". Address it to all of your email correspondents, add your name to the list and send it on. When the petition hits 1,000, send/ email to: comment@whitehouse.gov PETITION for President Bush: Dear Mr President: We, the undersigned, protest the bill that the Senate voted on recently which would allow illegal aliens to access our Social Security. We demand that you and all Congressional representatives require citizenship as a pre-requisite for social services in the United States . We are fed up with the lack of action about this matter and are tired of paying for services to illegals. ______________________________________________________ Thank God the Pines are saved! Rojas, a Democrat, has thrown his hat into the ring for the District 3 County Commission seat now held by Republican incumbent Sonny McCoy. "I do not think the incumbent has done a good job," Rojas said late Friday. " I really want him replaced. I want to bring integrity and honesty to the seat, and have a commissioner that follows the Sunshine Law and respects not just the letter of it but the spirit of the law." McCoy has been challenged numerous times for talking with fellow commissioners about subjects they may later vote on, which is against the law. Rojas says he has a clearly-thought-out platform that includes dealing with sewers, preservation of the working waterfront and property taxes. But first, he said, he's seeking support in the form of signatures cards so he can qualify for the election. McCoy has not yet voiced his intent. He's served two terms. Sloan Bashinsky has filed to run for the seat. He has no party affiliation and has run for County Commission before, as well as Key West mayor. Candidate qualifying for all but the judicial seats runs from June 16 through June 20. the primary is scheduled for Aug. 26 and the general election is Nov. 4. ______________________________________________________ Public Affairs Office News Release Naval Air Station Key West PO Box 9001 Key West, FL 33040-9001 PH: 305-293-2425 FAX: 305-293-2627 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 1, 2008 NAS Key West Commanding Officer Selected for New Command Naval Air Station Key West Commanding Officer Capt. April 3, 2008 Something is wrong with the KW Police Mauldin case. Christie Philips stated she was sexually harassed 4 or 5 times in 2006. What happened in 2006? Did Christie file her sexual harassment case in 2006? To whom? why wasn’t it reported to the public then? was it covered up? why wasn't it dealt with? Or.... was this story created to be used as an excuse to get rid of Mauldin as he already is involved in other hot issues with the department and ethic conflicts? There definitely is a cover up here, of some sort, and the public needs to know EVERYTHING! Since, Christie Philips had a part in Mauldin's resignation, the newspapers should do a cover story in the Sunday issue on it all. Everyone should be interviewed and answer questions to explain fully what happened. If it is found that Mauldin was sexually harassing Philips, then Mauldin should not be allowed to simply resign, leaving him a clean record and allow him to travel to other cities to do the same in some other police department. When he puts criminals away, they get a criminal record and it's made public. The same should happen to Mauldin! And by the way, in 2007, Julio Avael gave Mauldin a $10,000 pay increase (when he already had a huge salary). What was that all about? Do we reward bad behavior? Julio may have been alerted to the sexual harassment charges, and ignored them. If Julio was involved in this cover up, it should be made public and consequences given. The same for Jim Scholl. If he knew about this and ignored the sexual harassment, then he too needs to be reprimanded and take responsibility for his in-actions! |

Working Waterfront amendment to Our 2010 Comprehensive Plan, Jerry Coleman submitted the series of “corrections” to this proposal. Dixie Spehar, Mario DiGennaro, and Sonny McCoy voted for these “corrections”, going against Growth Management staff, who recommended not to accept these changes to the Board of County Commissioners; Murphy and Neugent both voted no. .
Does this say anything about Jerry Coleman's abilities as a Land Use Attorney? Just about everything Jerry Coleman has been involved in concerning land use, representing Monroe County, planning staff of Monroe County has turned down or Planning Commission and DCA has turned down, Wonder if Jerry Coleman is as good land use attorney as he thinks he is? Clients of Mr. Coleman, I would wonder if you need to get someone who is better qualified as a land use attorney than Mr. Coleman? Mr. Coleman charges big bucks, his services cost the taxpayers of Monroe County over $400,000.00. Dixie Spehar, Mario DiGennaro, and Sonny McCoy kept him on as a hired outside attorney for almost a year after Sylvia Murphy (Dist. 5 Comm.) ask that he be let go. I would think twice before hiring Jerry Coleman as a land use attorney with his track record wouldn’t you? ______________________________________________________ "Mauldin, made $122,818.80. Then-City Manager Julio Avael extended Mauldin's contract in May 2007, giving him a 10 percent raise and other generous benefits, including a $125 monthly clothing allowance." My question: why is it the people who least need these extra purks and favors ($125 monthly clothing allowance) get them? With a $100,000 plus salary, employees can afford their own transportation to and from work (do not need city or county cars with gas paid from our taxes), can pay for their lunches, etc. It's a sin, and wasteful of our tax money! ______________________________________________________ "Willie will specialize in land use, planning, agency permitting, construction inspection programs, construction management, ADA compliance assistance, project marketing and funding strategies." One guy "specializing" in 8 different things. Oxymoronic, wouldn't you say? ______________________________________________________ MICHELE OBAMA'S MILITANT RACISM REVEALED In her senior thesis at Princeton, Michele Obama, the wife of Barack Obama stated that America was a nation founded on "crime and hatred". Moreover, she stated that whites in America were "ineradicably racist". The 1985 thesis, titled "Princeton-Educated Blacks and the Black Community" was written under her maiden name, Michelle LaVaughn Robinson. Michelle Obama stated in her thesis that to "Whites at Princeton, it often seems as if, to them, she will always be Black first..." However, it was reported by a fellow black classmate, "If those "Whites at Princeton" really saw Michelle as one who always would "be Black first," it seems that she gave them that impression". Most alarming is Michele Obama's use of the terms "separationist" and "integrationist" when describing the views of black people. Mrs. Obama clearly identifies herself with a "separationist" view of race. "By actually working with the Black lower class or within their communities as a result of their ideologies, a separationist may better understand the desperation of their situation and feel more hopeless about a resolution as opposed to an integrationist who is ignorant to their plight." Obama writes that the path she chose by attending Princeton would likely lead to her "further integration and/or assimilation into a white cultural and social structure that will only allow me to remain on the periphery of society; never becoming a full participant." Michele Obama clearly has a chip on her shoulder. Not only does she see separate black and white societies in America, but she elevates black over white in her world. Here is another passage that is uncomfortable and ominous in meaning: "There was no doubt in my mind that as a member of the black community, I am obligated to this community and will utilize all of my present and future resources to benefit the black community first and foremost. " What is Michelle Obama planning to do with her future resources if she's first lady that will elevate black over white in America? The following passage appears to be a call to arms for affirmative action policies that could be the hallmark of an Obama administration. "Predominately white universities like Princeton are socially and academically designed to cater to the needs of the white students comprising the bulk of their enrollments." The conclusion of her thesis is alarming. Michelle Obama's poll of black alumni concludes that other black students at Princeton do not share her obsession with blackness. But rather than celebrate, she is horrified that black alumni identify with our common American culture more than they value the color of their skin. "I hoped that these findings would help me conclude that despite the high degree of identification with whites as a result of the educational and occupational path that black Princeton alumni follow, the alumni would still maintain a certain level of identification with the black community. However, these findings do not support this possibility." Is it no wonder that most black alumni ignored her racist questionnaire? Only 89 students responded out of 400 who were asked for input. Michelle Obama does not look into a crowd of Obama supporters and see Americans. She sees black people and white people eternally conflicted with one another. The thesis provides a trove of Mrs. Obama's thoughts and world view seen through a race-based prism. This is a very divisive view for a potential first lady that would do untold damage to race relations in this country in a Barack Obama administration. Michelle Obama's intellectually refined racism shouldgive all Americans pause for deep concern. Now maybe she's changed, but she sure sounds like someone with an axe to grind with America. Will the press let Michelle get a free pass over her obviously racist comment about American whites? I am sure that it will. But it shouldn't. ______________________________________________________ unbelievable ..... it is not how incompetent a person is .....but who they have sex with. also, now there is trouble brewing wih the county sherriff department as well! what is going on with this county? ______________________________________________________ Citizen Jane, I like your site, but wish you would update people's comments on a daily basis ______________________________________________________ Whatever your politics, however you lean, however you feel about the current administration, this report should open some eyes. Military losses, 1980 through 2006 As tragic as the loss of any member of the US Armed Forces is, consider the following statistics: The annual fatalities of military members while actively serving in the armed forces from 1980 through 2006: 1980 ......... 2,392 (Carter Year) Clinton years (1993-2000): 14,000 deaths. George W years (2001-2006): 7,932 deaths If you are surprised when you look at these figures, so was I. These figures mean that the loss from the two latest conflicts in the Middle East are less than the loss of military personnel during Bill Clinton's presidency; when America wasn't even involved in a war! It surprised me too, so I went on line to find out what military actions we were in during Clintons presidency. Here is a web site I found that lists out those conflicts. (not war) little wars And, I was even more shocked when I read that in 1980, during the reign of President (Nobel Peace Prize winner) Jimmy Carter, there were 2,392 US military fatalities! I think that these figures indicate that many members of our media and our politicians will pick and choose the information on which they report. Of course we all know that they present only those 'facts' which support their agenda-driven reporting. |
